The Flower of the Mind is the Romanian edition of the international Temple of Thought initiative, developed by TESSERACT Architecture in Colți / Aluniș, Buzău County.
The project explores how architecture can move beyond the conventional limits of the built object and become a space for reflection, encounter and connection with place. The local interpretation is rooted in the symbol of the black locust tree, a familiar presence in the Romanian landscape and cultural memory, and in the traditional craft of weaving natural branches.
Conceived as a cultural-territorial installation, The Flower of the Mind brings together architecture, contemporary art, local craftsmanship, landscape and community. The installation was developed in dialogue with artist Sebastian Moldovan, local craftsmen and the wider network of the international Temple of Thought project.
Its location within the Buzău Land UNESCO Global Geopark is an essential part of the project. The intervention was designed not as an autonomous object, but as a structure that responds to the natural, geological and cultural layers of the territory, while opening a wider conversation about fragile landscapes, heritage and responsible forms of intervention.
Built collectively through weaving and direct work with natural material, the installation becomes both a physical shelter and a place for pause, contemplation and gathering. Its making process is as important as the final object, transforming construction into a shared experience between architects, artists, craftsmen and local actors.
The project forms part of the global Temple of Thought initiative by DAVIDE MACULLO Architects, together with Florin Mindirigiu / SHARE Architects and María Elena Rudolf / Global Art Expert, contributing a distinctly local interpretation to an expanding international network of spaces dedicated to thought and reflection.
